The story of La Casa Azul is inseparable from its creator, Guille Milkyway, a Barcelona-born singer, composer, DJ, and producer. La Casa Azul was born in his imagination in 1997, conceived as a fictional, idealized pop band. The original band members—David, Virginia, Sergio, Clara, and Óscar—were initially presented as cartoon-like characters or "androids" in photos and music videos and do not perform live; Guille performs the songs solo and is the sole musician on the records. This approach allowed Milkyway to fully control the creative vision, blending a dizzying array of influences: doo-wop, 70s disco, 90s europop, synth-pop, and sunshine pop, all filtered through the meticulous, clean production style of Shibuya-kei.
