This fragility is a commentary on the instability of peace. In regions devastated by conflict, such as parts of the Middle East or Latin America, the "shadow" of the gun lingers long after the actual weapon is holstered. The statue represents Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on a societal level. Just as a shadow is a silent echo of a physical form, the memory of violence is a silent echo in the minds of survivors.
