Franco Califano was born in 1938 in Tripoli, in what was then Italian Libya. He grew up in Rome, where he absorbed the language and atmosphere that would become the hallmark of his poetic production. Before becoming a famous performer, Califano was already a prolific lyricist, penning iconic songs for some of the biggest names in Italian music. Among his most famous works are "La musica è finita" and "Una ragione di più" for Ornella Vanoni, "E la chiamano estate" for Bruno Martino, and many others for Mina.
